Aquatic ecosystems are under severe stress from phosphorus pollution. Phosphorus is one of the key drivers of the global nutrient challenge and the biodiversity loss emergency with respect to freshwater and marine ecosystems.

The OPF project ran from 2017-2021. During this time over 100 scientists and industry experts came together to develop this report.
Even low concentrations of P are therefore very effective in increasing the biological productivity of aquatic systems. This makes aquatic systems highly sensitive to P contamination.
