Zeofixer® was developed in China by our partner (Zhanyuan Environmental Technologies Co., Ltd.) in 2020 to remove excessive phosphate from water. The active element in Zeofixer® is lanthanum, a rare-earth element with a strong affinity to bind with phosphate. This forms an insoluble and biologically inert compound, Rhabdophane. Zeofixer® is comprised of 90% silicon-based material and 10% lanthanum.

It is manufactured through two main procedures, which include a controlled modifying process of the silicon-based material and a coupling process of lanthanum to the structure of the silicon-based material. The process is irreversible, which means that lanthanum is held firmly to the material frame while retaining its ability to bind phosphate, but does not readily dissociate, i.e., will not form free ions in water. In addition, the manufacturing method enables the carrier with the capability to hold more lanthanum ions.
